Breed of the Week: Dandie Dinmont Terrier

Breed of the Week: Dandie Dinmont Terrier

When you tend to think breeds of dogs, you will think of breeds such as Golden Retrievers, Poodles, Jack Russell Terriers, German Shepards, etc.. After naming about 100 dogs, you might finally get to naming the breed we are going to celebrate today, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier!

Dandie Dinmont Terriers are an iconic breed of small, loyal dogs originating from the Cheviot Hills on the Border between Scotland and England. They were first bred by farmers in the early 19th century to help control vermin and catch otters. These energetic farm terriers have been popular since they were first introduced, offering a combination of intelligence and character which is unique to the breed.

Today, Dandie Dinmont Terriers are still seen as devoted companions and have managed to maintain their popularity around the world. They make excellent pets due to their loving nature, intelligence, and loyalty; they also excel in agility trials and other canine sports. With their distinctive look of a ‘wirey’ coat tied up in a top knot, Dandie Dinmont Terriers are sure to make an impression wherever they go! Despite their small size, they are bold and fearless when it comes to protecting their owners.

Dandie Dinmont Terriers require plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to stay healthy and happy. They need regular brushing and grooming due to their long coats, and should have their nails trimmed regularly as well. With the right amount of care, Dandie Dinmont Terriers make wonderful lifelong companions!
