Breed of the Week: Golden Retriever

At Dogs Eat Rite, we pride ourselves in supporting all breeds of dogs. One of our favorite breeds to support is the ever-lovable golden retriever! With their intelligence and friendly temperaments, golden retrievers make great companions. Let’s take a closer look at these amazing dogs!

History

The golden retriever is a breed of hunting dog that was developed in Scotland during the 19th century. The breed has its roots in the St. John’s water dog and other crossbreeds from setters, spaniels, and retrievers. Golden retrievers have been used to hunt birds for centuries and are also popular family pets due to their gentle and affectionate personalities.

What It Looks Like

A golden retriever is a medium-large sized breed with a sturdy build and silky coat. The most common colors for a golden retriever’s fur are shades of gold, cream, or red. They have long legs, a broad chest, and floppy ears that can be either black or brown. On average, a golden retriever will weigh between 55 and 75 pounds when fully grown.

Characteristics

Golden retrievers are known for their intelligence and loyalty. They are friendly to people of all ages making them great family pets. Golden retrievers are also highly trainable and excel in sports such as agility, hunting, and tracking. They also have an uncanny ability to pick up on subtle cues and commands, making them great for service as well as therapy dogs.

Our Supporters

At Dogs Eat Rite we would like to give a special shout out to two of our golden retriever supporters: Mia and Winter! We are so grateful for their unwavering support throughout the years and we are so lucky to have them as customers.

So if you’re looking for a friendly, loyal, and intelligent companion then consider getting a golden retriever! They truly make amazing pets and will fill your home with love and laughter. Thanks again to Mia and Winter!
